Domain Health

Make sure your email actually arrives.

Before Gmail or Outlook trusts a message from your domain, it checks three records. Type a domain to see all three the way they do.

What mail servers check before they trust you

Think of every email as a letter. It only gets delivered with confidence if all three of these are in order.

SPFHealthy

SPF, the stamp

A list of the servers allowed to send email as your domain. Mail from anywhere else looks forged.

DKIMHealthy

DKIM, the seal

A signature added to every message, proving nobody changed it on the way to the inbox.

DMARCHealthy

DMARC, the postmark

Your instruction to receiving servers about what to do with mail that fails the other two checks.

Microsoft 365 says your domain is healthy. It never checked DKIM or DMARC.

The Check health screen in the Microsoft 365 admin center shows a row of green ticks. It only looks at the records Microsoft needs to route mail to you. The two records other servers use to trust mail from you aren't on it.

What Check health covers

  • MX record for mail routing
  • SPF record
  • Autodiscover record
  • Device enrollment records

What it leaves out

  • Whether DKIM signing records were ever published
  • Whether a DMARC policy exists at all
  • How strict that DMARC policy is

The same broken record, two different months

Without monitoring

  1. A DNS change quietly breaks a record
  2. Nobody notices for weeks
  3. Invoices start landing in spam

With Domain Health

  1. A DNS change quietly breaks a record
  2. You get an alert that morning
  3. Fixed before a client notices

Common questions

Is the domain check really free?

Yes. Checking any domain's SPF, DKIM and DMARC is free and needs no account. A free account also rechecks one domain every week and emails you if a record breaks.

Why is my email going to spam?

The most common reason is a missing or weak SPF, DKIM or DMARC record. Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo now expect all three, and mail from domains without them is far more likely to be filtered as spam or rejected.

What do SPF, DKIM and DMARC actually do?

SPF lists the servers allowed to send as your domain. DKIM adds a signature that proves a message wasn't changed. DMARC tells receiving servers what to do with mail that fails those checks, and is what stops criminals sending fake invoices in your name.

Does the check change anything on my domain or mailboxes?

No. It only reads public DNS records that any mail server can see. Nothing is changed and no mailbox is accessed.

Can someone fix the records for me?

Yes. From any domain report you can request a fix, and a specialist at ITend2end in Cape Town sets up SPF, DKIM and DMARC for a once-off R1,750.
